Multilingual book on Bangabandhu’s 7th March speech unveiled in UNESCO

DHAKA, March 6, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh Embassy in Paris and Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to UNESCO published a book on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s 7th March speech in UN’s six official languages.

The book titled “The Historic 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman: A World Documentary Heritage,” was unveiled at UNESCO headquarters on Friday, according to a press release received here today.

In 2017, the UN’s educational, scientific and cultural agency, UNESCO, included the Bangbandhu’s historic 7th March speech in the Memory of the World International Register, a list of the world’s important documentary heritage.

The book contains special messages from Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and Education Minister Dipu Moni.

During the book unveiling ceremony, Bangladesh ambassador to Paris and Permanent Representative to UNESCO Kazi Imtiaz paid homage to the memory of Bangabandhu.

“The historic speech of March 7 was basically a declaration of the independence of Bangladesh and the speech worked as the main source of inspiration for the nine-month long liberation war,” he said.

Ambassadors and permanent representatives to UNESCO from Australia, England, France, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Spain, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Mauritania, Kuwait, Russia, China and Bangladesh who speak English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian and Chinese uncovered the book, the release said.

According to UNESCO, “The speech effectively declared the independence of Bangladesh. The speech constitutes a faithful documentation of how the failure of post-colonial nation-states to develop inclusive, democratic society alienates their population belonging to different ethnic, cultural, linguistic or religious groups.”
