Tajul for gearing up activities of village court

DHAKA, March 4, 2021 (BSS) –Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam today said that the government is working on gearing up the activities of village courts, making those dynamic and ensuring their accountability as well to remove backlog of the cases.

Reforms will be made wherever it is necessary to settle the cases, he said adding that any sort of problem could be resolved if all concerned at union parishad, upazila parishad and upazila administration would work together in a coordinated way.

The minister urged all to spend money for the development of the country instead of filing cases against each other at courts for harassment purposes.

Tajul was addressing the ‘Project Reflection Workshop of Activities Village Court’ as the chief guest at a city hotel.

Praising the government’s ongoing endeavors to develop the country, the minister hoped that the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would reach its targets before the stipulated time.

He further said that it canot yield good outcome without accountability of people. First of all, accountability must be established in all fields, he added.

With Local Government Division (LGD) Senior Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed in the chair, the programme was addressed, among others, by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative Sudipto Mukerjee and European Union (EU) Ambassador to Bangladesh Rensje Teerink as special guests.

Additional Secretary and Project Director of the Local Government division, Maran Kumar Chakraborty gave the welcome speech on the occasion.
