Coronavirus cases reach 15,848 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 4, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus cases rose to
15,848 in Rangpur division where the COVID-19 vaccination campaign continues
amid a declining infection rate during the last more than two months.

Health officials said two new patients were reported after testing of 168
samples on Wednesday at the daily infection rate of 1.19 percent raising the
number of total infected patients to 15,848 in the division.

The district-wise break up of 15,848 patients currently stands at 4,046 in
Rangpur, 795 in Panchagarh, 1,331 in Nilphamari, 966 in Lalmonirhat, 1,020 in
Kurigram, 1,513 in Thakurgaon, 4,712 in Dinajpur and 1,465 in Gaibandha.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,08,343 collected samples were tested
till Wednesday, and of them, 15,848 were found COVID-19 positive with an
average infection rate of 14.63 percent in the division.

“The total number of cured patients rose to 15,200 out of total 15,848
infected people at the average recovery rate of 95.91 percent,” Focal Person
of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA
Siddiqui told BSS today.

The average recovery rate of 95.91 percent is currently about 6.56 times
higher than the average infection rate of 14.63 percent in the division.

“The 15,200 recovered patients include 3,689 of Rangpur, 771 of Panchagarh,
1,300 of Nilphamari, 953 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,473 of
Thakurgaon, 4,600 of Dinajpur and 1,434 of Gaibandha districts in the
division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities
remained steady at 308 in the division with no more deaths reported from
anywhere on Wednesday.

The district-wise break up of the 308 fatalities stands at 72 in Rangpur,
111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 28 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in
Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,”
he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.94 percent in the
division,” he said.

Among the total 15,848 infected patients, four are undergoing treatments at
isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 15,200 patients and
308 deaths while 3436 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 95,568 people were put in quarantines, and
of them, 93,199 released till Thursday morning in the division,” Dr. Ali
added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu
expressed satisfaction over the smoothly running COVID-19 vaccination
campaign in the division.

However, he suggested everyone to properly abide by the health directives,
even after taking the COVID-19 vaccines, to ultimately bring down the
infection rate to the zero level and free the society from the deadly virus.
