Awareness among youths on voting rights underscored

RANGPUR, March 2, 2021 (BSS) – Creating awareness among youths on voting rights and inspiring them in exercising voting rights have become crucial to give democracy an institutional shape.

The opinion came today at a discussion arranged by Rangpur Regional Office of the Election Commission here with the assistance of the Divisional Commissioner’s Office in observance of the National Voters’ Day 2 March 2021 in the city.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain inaugurated observance of the day by releasing festoon and balloons on Rangpur Regional Office of the Election Commission premises as the chief guest.

Presided over by Rangpur Regional Election Officer GM Sahatab Uddin, Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan, Senior District Election Officer Md. Farhad Hossain and Sadar Upazila Election Officer Md. Rezaul Karim addressed the event as special guests.

Senior District Election Officer Md. Farhad Hossain delivered a welcome speech narrating the importance of the day and necessity of creating awareness among youths about their voting rights.

The speakers put emphasis on inspiring the voters in exercising their voting rights to infuse democratic culture in them for strengthening democracy to give democracy an institutional shape.

The chief guest called upon the officials concerned for creating social awareness and inspiring the voters to cast their votes to strengthen the democratic process.

Later, the chief guest distributed smart cards among a number of voters and launched the national identity card related service providing activities in the city.
