4 presumed fraudsters held in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Feb 27, 2021 (BSS) – Four alleged members including a female
of an inter-district fraud gang were arrested along with Taka 15,000 in cash
from Haragram area under Kasiadanga Police Station in the city last night.

According to the police sources, the arrestees were identified as Monwar
Hossain, 36, Selina Akter alias Sathi, 25, and Khairul Islam, 26, of Charghat
in Rajshahi and Tuhin Sarker, 32, of Rangabali in Patuakhali. Of them, Monwar
Hossain is a former Sepoy of Bangladesh Army and he was the kingpin of the
cheating gang.

On a tip-off, a Detective Branch team of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police
(RMP) conducted a sudden raid in the area and arrested them with the cash
money red-handed around 8.30 pm.

The detectives also recovered a fake pistol and a handcuff, foreign
currencies of different countries and fake DB jackets from their possessions.

The arrested persons were involved in cheating with the affluent people
in the name of making love affairs with the young girl, police sources said.

They used to collect money from the people through bKash accounts
tactically, said RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddque, while addressing a press
briefing on the issue at his office conference hall today.

A case has been lodged with Kasiadanga Police Station under Digital
Security Law in this connection and the arrested persons were handed over to
police this noon.
