Coronavirus: 1,07,500 samples tested in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 26, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 1,07,500 samples of suspected coronavirus (COID-19) infected people from all eight districts have been tested since the beginning of the pandemic in Rangpur division.

Health officials said a total of 15,836 people have so far been reported COVID-19 positive after testing the samples at the average infection rate of 14.73 percent in the division.

“The infection rate remains below five percent during the last one month and below 10 percent in the last more than two months in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

As per the test results, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 3.30 percent on Thursday, 0.94 percent on Wednesday, 1.24 percent on Tuesday, 5.75 percent on Monday, 1.63 percent on Sunday and 2.82 percent on Saturday last in the division.

Meanwhile, 15,182 people among the total 15,836 infected people have so far recovered at the average recovery rate of 95.87 percent in the division where the COVID-19 vaccination campaign is running smoothly since February 7 last.

“The district-wise break up of total 15,836 patients stands at 4,044 in Rangpur, 794 in Panchagarh, 1,329 in Nilphamari, 965 in Lalmonirhat, 1,020 in Kurigram, 1,512 in Thakurgaon, 4,710 in Dinajpur and 1,462 in Gaibandha,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Presently, the 15,182 recovered patients include 3,685 of Rangpur, 762 of Panchagarh, 1,300 of Nilphamari, 953 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,469 of Thakurgaon, 4,599 of Dinajpur and 1,434 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 308 in the division with no more deaths reported on Thursday.

The district-wise breakups of the 308 fatalities stand at 72 in Rangpur, 111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 28 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division, he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.94 percent in the division,” he added.

Among the total 15,836 COVID-19 infected patients, seven are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,182 patients and 308 deaths while 339 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“A total of 2,63,467 citizens, including 1,71,220 males and 92,247 females, have been immunised with the COVID-19 vaccines in the division till Thursday since launching of the vaccination campaign from February 7 last,” Dr. Ali added

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 95,473 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 93,047 were released and 2,426 are currently remaining in home quarantines.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged the people to take the vaccines safely and abide by the health directives to stop the spread of the virus.
