2,63,467 receive COVID-19 vaccines in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 25, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 2,63,467 citizens have been immunised with the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines so far at different government hospitals in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Health officials said more 16,701 citizens were immunised with the COVID-19 vaccines today (Thursday) at government hospitals raising the total number of vaccine recipients to 2,63,467 in the division.

“The 16,701 citizens, who were inoculated with the COVID-19 vaccines today in the division, include 10,158 males and 6,543 females,” Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali told BSS here today.

The total 2,63,467 citizens immunised in the division so far with COVID-19 vaccines include 1,71,220 males and 92,247 females.

“The vaccine recipient citizens are leading normal life without remarkable side effects though 66 of them experienced insignificant temporary adverse events for a few minutes since February 7 last in the division,” Dr. Ali said.

The district-wise break-up of total 2,63,467 vaccine recipients stands at 50,518 in Rangpur, 23,711 in Panchagarh, 35,460 in Nilphamari, 18,899 in Lalmonirhat, 24,086 in Kurigram, 29,237 in Thakurgaon, 56,944 in Dinajpur and 24,612 in Gaibandha in the division.

“Since launching of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7 last, an increasing number of citizens are rushing to the vaccination centers to take the COVID-19 vaccines in a festive atmosphere across Rangpur division,” Dr. Ali added.

Talking to BSS, Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, who was immunised first at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH) on February 7 last, said he is leading a normal life and conducting works as usual without side effects.

Superintendent of Rangpur Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospital Dr. SM Nurun Nabi, who took the COVID-19 vaccine at Rangpur Sadar Upazila Health Complex on February 9 last, said he did not experience side effects.

Senior journalist Shahidul Islam Shahid of Panchagarh and his wife Mamtaz Begum said they were immunised with the COVID-19 vaccines on February 7 and February 10 last respectively.

The couple felt no side effects since taking the COVID-19 vaccines and is feeling quite normal to lead a usual life.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu expressed satisfaction over excellent management at government hospitals for immunising registered citizens.

He suggested everyone to abide by the health directives even after taking the vaccines to bring down the COVID-19 infection rate ultimately to the zero level.
