BGB to observe Martyrs’ Day tomorrow

DHAKA, Feb 24, 2021 (BSS) – The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will observe
the Martyrs’ Day tomorrow with due solemnity, commemorating the people killed
in the Pilkhana BDR carnage on February 25-26 in 2009.

Marking the day, the BGB will organise Quran Khwani, doa and milad mahfil
at all regions, sectors, institutions and units including the Pilkhana
headquarters, according to a PID handout received here today.

The representatives of the president and prime minister, the home
minister, chiefs of three armed forces, senior secretary of the home
ministry’s public security division and BGB director general will place
wreaths at the Banani military graveyard in the morning tomorrow.

All BGB members will wear black-badge and BGB flag will be hoisted half-
mast at the places where BGB regimental flag is hoisted.

On Friday (February 26), a special prayer and milad mahfil will be held at
Pilkhana central mosque, Dhaka sector masjid and Border Guard Hospital’s
mosque after Jummah prayers seeking salvation of the departed souls of the
Pilkhana tragedy martyrs.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will be present in the milad mahfil at
Pilkhana central mosque as the chief guest.

Home affairs ministry senior secretary, BGB director general, relatives of
the martyrs and all officers of the BGB headquarters will also attend the
programme.

On February 25-26, 2009, a group of relegated members of the then
Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) killed 74 people, including 57 army officers at the
Pilkhana headquarters of the paramilitary force.
