Coronavirus: 15,828 infected, 15,176 cured in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 24, 2021 (BSS) – Some 15,828 people have so far been infected with the coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 15,176 cured in Rangpur division where the vaccination campaign continues smoothly.

Health officials said the recovery rate of coronavirus infected patients continues rising amid declining infection rate during the last two months in the division where citizens are rushing to take the COVID-19 vaccination centres to take the vaccines.

“The number of COVID-19 cases rose to 15,828 as two more patients were reported after testing 161 samples at 1.24 percent infection rate on Tuesday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 5.75 percent on Monday, 1.63 percent on Sunday, 2.82 percent on Saturday, 1.89 percent on Friday and two percent on Thursday last in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,07,105 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Tuesday, and of them, 15,828 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.78 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of cured patients rose to 15,176 with the healing of three more infected people on Tuesday with an average recovery rate of 95.88 percent in the division.

“The district-wise break-up of the total 15,828 patients stands at 4,039 in Rangpur, 794 in Panchagarh, 1,328 in Nilphamari, 964 in Lalmonirhat, 1,019 in Kurigram, 1,512 in Thakurgaon, 4,710 in Dinajpur and 1,462 in Gaibandha,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Presently, the 15,176 recovered patients include 3,682 of Rangpur, 762 of Panchagarh, 1,299 of Nilphamari, 952 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,469 of Thakurgaon, 4,598 of Dinajpur and 1,434 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 308 in the division with no more deaths reported on Tuesday.

The district-wise break-up of the 308 fatalities stands at 72 in Rangpur, 111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 28 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.95 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 15,828 COVID-19 infected patients, six are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,176 patients and 308 deaths while 338 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since February 7 last, a total of 2,30,154 citizens, including 1,50,909 males and 79,245 females, were so far been immunised with COVID-19 vaccines in all eight districts of the division till Tuesday Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged citizens to abide by the health directives even after taking the vaccines to control the infection spread.
