Ex Bangladesh Bank deputy governor Ibrahim Khaled passes away

DHAKA, Feb 24, 2021 (BSS) – Eminent economist and former deputy governor of
Bangladesh Bank Khondkar Ibrahim Khaled passed away while undergoing
treatment at a hospital here early today at the age of 80.

He breathed his last at 5.45am at the intensive care unit of Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in city, family sources said.

Khaled was admitted to a private hospital in the city’s Syamoli area with
COVID-19 positive on February 1.

Later, he was transferred to the BSMMU as Khaled was diagnosed with
different complications, including pneumonia.

Born on July 4, 1941 in Gopalganj district, Khaled obtained his master
degree from Dhaka University (DU) Geography Department and earned MBA degree
from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of the same university.

He started his career as a banker in 1963 while he served the central bank
as deputy governor from 1998 to 2000 and the Pubali Bank as managing director
from 2000 to 2006.

Earlier, he also served Bangladesh Krishi Bank, Agrani Bank and Sonali Bank
as managing director of the financial institutions.

The eminent economist was working for the Pubali Bank as an independent
director since December 9, 2020. In 2011, Khaled was awarded honorary
fellowship by the Bangla Academy.
