RAJSHAHI, July 15, 2018 (BSS) – A Mobile court yesterday sentenced 26 drug
peddlers to different jail terms on charge of taking drugs and drug trading
in the district.
Earlier Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested 29 persons for their
alleged involvement in drug dealing. Of them, 26 were sentenced to jail from
six months to one year terms each by the mobile court.
The elite force arrested 29 people conducting a drive in Guripara area
under Kasiadanga Police Station in Rajshahi city on Saturday.
The RAB officials here today said they also seized 262 grams of ganja and
some other drugs-taking instruments from their possession.
Later, the arrestees were produced before the mobile court. After examining
the evidences, the court sentenced 10 of them to jail for one year each and
16 others to six months each. Three other arrested persons were fined Taka
500, Taka 1,000 and Taka 2,000 respectively.
Saiful Islam, assistant superintendent of police working at RAB, said
different courts sent more than 456 drug addicts to jail during the last 18
days.
