Water Innovation Challenge Competition-2021 begins

DHAKA, Feb 23, 2021 (BSS) – A month-long Water Innovation Challenge
Competition-2021 was kicked off today aiming at ensuring technology-based
solutions to protect water resources by involving the youths.

Senior Secretary of Water Resources Ministry Kabir Bin Anwar inaugurated
the competition as the chief guest at a virtual function, said a press
release here.

Seven members of the Bangladesh Water Multi-Stakeholder Partnership (BWMSP)
– a2i (Aspire to Innovate), Department of Environment, Dhaka Wasa, 2030 Water
Resources Group, Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services
(BASIS), Bangladesh Computer Samity and Unilever Pureit – are jointly
organising the virtual competition.

Addressing the inaugural function, Kabir Bin Anwar said, “Under the
leadership of the Prime Minister, the implementation of the Delta Plan has
begun. We hope it will bring far-reaching results and we will be able to
ensure proper use of the innovations undertaken by the Water Resources
Ministry”.

Director General of the Department of Environment Dr AKM Rafiq Ahmed,
Managing Director of the Dhaka WASA Engineer Taksim A Khan, A2I Project
Director (Additional Secretary) Dr Abdul Mannan, Bangladesh Computer Samity
President Shahid-ul-Munir, BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir, Corporate
Affairs Chief of Unilever Bangladesh Shamima Akhter and Regional Coordinator
of 2030 Water Resources Group Saif Tanzim Qayyum joined the virtual inaugural
function, among others.

According to the release, the month-long competition has aimed at finding
out the technology-based solutions to help the people change their habits for
protecting the water resources. Apart from reducing water use, the initiative
would play a role in increasing accountability for excessive use and
treatment of water in the industries sectors.

The initiative would also help in making decisions on government investment
in building infrastructure for drinking and reusable water.

The intending young innovators could submit their ideas through the website
http://challenge.gov.bd/ by March 15. The final round of the competition will
be held on the World Water Day on March 22, 2021.
