Livestock sector has huge potential of earning foreign exchange: Rezaul
DHAKA, Feb 23, 2021 (BSS) – Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul
Karim said the country’s livestock sector has a huge potential of earning
foreign currency.
“The livestock sector can play an important role in the country’s
socioeconomic development. The working area of the sector is largely
expanded,” he told the inaugural session of a workshop here. Bangladesh
Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) arranged the workshop at a city hotel, a
ministry press release said.
Speaking as the chief guest, Rezaul said there is a potential of
eliminating poverty, creating entrepreneurs, generating employment, keeping
rural economy smooth and meeting local protein demand through the livestock
sector.
Besides, he said, there is also a huge potential of the livestock sector
to earn foreign exchange through export of animal products derived from meat,
eggs and milk.
Chaired by BLRI executive director Dr Nathu Ram Sarker, the inaugural
session of the workshop was addressed, among others, by Fisheries and
Livestock Secretary Rawnak Mahmud, director general of the Department of
Livestock Dr Abdul Jabbar Sikder and project director Mohammad Abdus Samad.
