Rangpur region being connected to marine sector: Khalid

RANGPUR, Feb 23, 2021 (BSS) – State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury has said Rangpur region is being connected to the country’s marine sector with official inauguration of Marine Academy soon at Pirganj upazila of the district.

“The country’s marine sector did not witness significant progress despite the initiative of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. But, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has established four marine academies, including one in Rangpur,” he said.

The state minister made the observation while inspecting the newly built Marine Academy at Pirganj and exchanging views there with officials and elite on Tuesday afternoon as the chief guest.

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina believes in homogeneous development. Though Rangpur is not riverine, she has established Marine Academy in Pirganj upazila with a view to development of Rangpur region as a whole.

“Development is taking place in every district and upazila. We must be united in maintaining the continuity of this development,” Khalid said.

Responding to a question from reporters, the State Minister said Ziaur Rahman, who came to power after being involved in the brutal assassination of August 15, 1975, was involved in all sorts of anti-liberation activities.

“In this way, the gallantry title of Bir Uttam has been insulted,” he said, commenting that Ziaur Rahman has insulted the War of Liberation, freedom fighters and spirit of the War of Liberation and that is why his gallantry title should be removed.

The conspirators had destroyed all possibilities of the country through assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975.

“However, under the able leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is now known as a country of potential in the world,” he said.

With Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan in the chair, Rangpur Marine Academy Commandant Captain Shafiqul Islam, Project Director of four Marine Academy Construction Project Rafiq Ahmed Siddique, Pirganj upazila Awami League President Advocate Azizur Rahman Ranga, its General Secretary and Pirganj Municipality Mayor Tazimul Islam Shamim, Executive Engineer of Rangpur Public Works Department Abdul Goffar Chowdhury and Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biroda Rani Roy were present on the occasion.

Earlier, the State Minister placed wreaths at the grave of renowned nuclear scientist and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr. MA Wazed Miah in his native Laldighee Fatehpur village and offered munajats seeking divine blessing for his departed soul.
