Govt, AIIB sign deal to implement sanitation, hygiene project
DHAKA, Feb 23, 2021 (BSS) – An agreement was signed between the Government
of Bangladesh and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in order to
implement ‘Bangladesh Rural Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Human Capital
Development Project’.
The project will be implemented by the Department of Public Health
Engineering (DPHE) under the Local Government Division and Palli Karma-
Sahayak Foundation (PKSF).
Secretary of Economic Relations Division Fatima Yasmin and vice president
of Investment Operations, Region-1, AIIB D.J. Pandian on Thursday signed the
agreement on behalf of their respective sides, said an official handout
today.
The project will be implemented at 98 upazilas across the country.
This project will finance the construction of hand washing stations in
schools and public places due to outbreaks of infectious diseases like COVID-
19 and strengthen the institutional capacity of organizations concerned of
local government division aiming to create competitive jobs and expansion of
WASH services.
