Over 2.30 lakh get COVID-19 vaccines in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 23, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 2,30,154 citizens have already been immunised with the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines at different government hospitals in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Health officials said more 15,765 citizens were immunised with the COVID-19 vaccines today at government hospitals raising the total number of vaccine recipients to 2,30,154 in the division.

“The 15,765 citizens, who were inoculated with the COVID-19 vaccines today in the division, include 9,761 males and 6,004 females,” Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali told BSS.

The total 2,30,154 citizens immunised in the division so far with COVID-19 vaccines include 1,50,909 males and 79,245 females.

“The vaccine recipients are leading normal life without remarkable side effects though 65 of them experienced insignificant temporary adverse events for a few minutes since February 7 last in the division,” Dr. Ali said.

The district-wise break-up of total 2,30,154 vaccine recipients now stands at 43,529 in Rangpur, 21,022 in Panchagarh, 31,320 in Nilphamari, 16,226 in Lalmonirhat, 21,306 in Kurigram, 25,568 in Thakurgaon, 49,610 in Dinajpur and 21,573 in Gaibandha.

“Increasing number of citizens rushing to the vaccination centres at government hospitals with huge eagerness is taking the COVID-19 vaccines in a festive atmosphere in Rangpur division,” Dr. Ali added.

Talking to BSS today, Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, who was immunised first at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH on February 7 last, said did not experience notable side effects so far even after 16 days.

Superintendent of Rangpur Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospital Dr. SM Nurun Nabi, who took the COVID-19 vaccine at Rangpur Sadar Upazila Health Complex on February 9 last, said he did not experience notable side effects.

Chairman of Rangpur Sadar upazila parishad Nasima Zaman Boby, who received the vaccine at RpMCH on February 15 last, said she felt no side effects since taking the COVID-19 vaccine and is leading a normal life.

Senior journalists Shahidul Islam Shahid of Panchagarh and Rafique Sarker of Rangpur said they were immunised with the COVID-19 vaccines on February 7 and February 10 last respectively.

They felt no side effects since taking the COVID-19 vaccine and are feeling quite normal to lead a usual life.

The vaccine recipient citizens highly appreciated excellent management at the government hospitals for immunising registered citizens in a completely hassle-free manner amid a festive atmosphere.

Later, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu expressed happiness over the satisfaction of citizens while taking vaccines at government hospitals in the division.

He urged everyone to abide by the health directives even after taking the vaccines to bring down the COVID-19 infection rate to the zero level and ultimately free the country from the deadly virus.
