Railways now pro-people sector: Sujan

THAKURGAON, Feb 22, 2021 (BSS) – Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan today said Bangladesh Railways have now become pro-people and service oriented sector.

“The present government has made a separate ministry for the railways, accelerating its development. Railways have made a comeback,” he said.

The minister said these while addressing as chief guest at a function while inaugurating the newly constructed high and extended platform of Thakurgaon Road rail station here this afternoon.

He said the BNP-Jamaat government had pushed the railways towards destruction and had sacked 12 thousand officials and staff of railways. The present government led by Awami League is developing and modernizing the railways sector, Sujan said.

Secretary of the ministry Md Salim Reza, Director General of Bangladesh Railways DN Mojumder, Deputy Commissioner Kamruzzaman Selim, Superintendent of Police (SP) Jahangir Hossain, Zilla Parishad Chairman and District Awami League President Md Sadek Quraisy, Sadar Upazila Chairman Arunangsho Dutta Tito, City Mayor Anjuman Ara Begum addressed the function with senior official of Bangladesh Railways North Zone Minal Kanti in the chair.

The government has decided to connect Cox’s Bazar to Panchagarh by rail, giving importance on tourism, the minister said. The government is also recovering the railways resources from the illegal occupation, he added.
