Korean EPZ, Startup Bangladesh Limited and Bangladesh Hi-Tech sign MoU

DHAKA, Feb 22, 2021 (BSS) – A tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU)
has been signed today among Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, Startup
Bangladesh Limited and Korean Export Processing Zone (KPZ) with a view to
increasing private investment.

Hosne Ara Begum, Managing Director of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority,
Tina Jebin, Managing Director of Startup Bangladesh Limited, Kihak Sang,
Chairman and CEO of Korean EPZ signed the MoU on behalf of their respective
sides at KPZ auditorium in Anwara in Chittagong, said a press release.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Junaid
Ahmed Palak was present as the chief guest at the signing ceremony. Korean
Ambassador to Bangladesh Lee Jang-keun, Senior Secretary of ICT Department NM
Ziaul Alam and officials concerned, among others, were present on the
occasion.

Under the agreement, the proposed Hi-Tech Park on about 100 acres land of
Korean EPZ was declared as a private Hi-Tech Park by the Bangladesh Hi-Tech
Park Authority. It will also provide policy support for investment as well as
work jointly.

Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority will assist in setting up specialized
labs at Korean EPZ. At the same time, various facilities including training
will be provided to the entrepreneurs.

The state minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has allotted
2,500,000 acres of land in Chittagong in 1999 to set up a Korean EPZ to
attract foreign investment in the country.

Currently, KPZ has more than 25,000 jobs. He said the declaration of the
Korean EPZ as a private high-tech park would create investment and more than
20,000 jobs.

Earlier, the state minister visited various factories of KPZ, the press
release added.
