“Amar Ekushey” observed in Gaibandha with due respect

GAIBANDHA, Feb 21, 2021, (BSS)- The “Shaheed Dibash and the International
Mother Language Day-2021” was observed in the district on Sunday amid paying
due respect to the language movement martyrs with a fresh call for ensuring
use of Bengali language at all levels.

The daylong observance began at one minute past midnight through placing
wreaths by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin at Central Shaheed Minar of
Gaibandha Poura Park.

Additional Deputy Commissioner ABM Sadiqur Rahman and Sadar UNO Rafiul Alam
accompanied the DC while placing the floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.

Later, district police, Bangladesh Awami League (AL) district unit, Zila
Muktijoddha Sangsad, PWD, political parties, socio-cultural and professional
organisations, private bodies and institutions placed floral wreaths at the
Shaheed Minar.

In the morning, thousands of people from all ages were seen walking
barefooted with bunches of flowers in hand and wearing back badges took part
in “probhat ferries’ singing ‘Amar Bhaiyer Rakte Rangano Ekushey February,
Ami Ki Bhulite Pari’ while paying their deep respect to the languages
movement heroes at the Central Shaheed Minar.

The programmes also included hoisting of the national flag at half-mast
atop all government and private buildings and educational institutions, art,
essay writing, hand writing and patriotic songs competitions with screening
of documentary films on the language movement.

Special prayers were also offered at the mosques and temples, churches, and
other places of religious worships at convenient times.

In the evening, a discussion meeting was also held at the conference room
of the DC here highlighting the significance of the day.

DC Abdul Matin addressed the meeting as the chief guest and superintendent
of police Muhammad Towhidul Islam, general secretary of Bangladesh Awami
League district unit Abu Bakar Siddidque and mayor of Gaibandha Municipality
Md Motlubour Rahman were present at the event as special guests with
Additional Deputy Commissioner General and also Additional District
Magistrate ABM Sadiqur Rahman in the chair.

A large number of people from all walks of life participated in the
programmes spontaneously.
