Coronavirus cases reach 15,819 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 21, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus cases rose to 15,819 in Rangpur division where the COVID-19 vaccination campaign continues successfully amid a declining infection rate during the last more than two months.

Health officials said only two new patients were reported after testing 71 samples on Saturday as the daily infection rate of 2.82 percent raising the number of total infected patients to 15,819 in the division.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 1.89 percent on Friday, two percent on Thursday, 1.64 percent on Wednesday, 2.45 percent on Tuesday and 1.63 percent on Monday last in the division.

The district-wise break up of the total 15,819 patients stands at 4,036 in Rangpur, 792 in Panchagarh, 1,328 in Nilphamari, 964 in Lalmonirhat, 1,019 in Kurigram, 1,511 in Thakurgaon, 4,709 in Dinajpur and 1,460 in Gaibandha districts.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,06,733 collected samples were tested till Saturday, and of them, 15,819 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.82 percent in the division.

“Meanwhile, the number of cured patients rose to 15,160 as one more person healed on Saturday at the average recovery rate of 95.83 percent,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The average recovery rate of 95.83 percent is currently about 6.47 times higher than the average infection rate of 14.82 percent in the division.

“The 15,160 recovered patients include 3,670 of Rangpur, 759 of Panchagarh, 1,299 of Nilphamari, 952 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,469 of Thakurgaon, 4,597 of Dinajpur and 1,434 of Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddique said.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 307 in the division with no more deaths reported on Saturday.

The district-wise break up of the 307 fatalities stands at 71 in Rangpur, 111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 28 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.94 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 15,819 infected patients, five are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 15,160 patients and 307 deaths while 347 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 95,382 people were put in quarantines, and of them, 92,810 released till Sunday morning in the division,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu expressed satisfaction over the declining trend in the COVID-19 infection in the division.

However he suggested everyone to properly abide by the health directives, even after taking the COVID-19 vaccines, to bring down the infection rate to the zero level.
