DHAKA, Feb 20, 2021 (BSS) – Agriculture Minister M Abdur Razzak today said applying ‘Samaloy’ method in cultivation would reduce the use of machinery, farmer’s time and labor cost.
“Farmers will be benefited using ‘Samaloy’ method as it would reduce their time, labor and using machinery… Taka 4500 would be reduced per acre using this method,” he said.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of planting of rice saplings in 50 acres of land through rice transplant in ‘Samaloy’ system at Kendua village in Dhanbari upazila of Tangail district.
The event was organized by the Department of Agricultural Extension, said a press release.
The minister said the present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly to make agriculture modern and profitable by increasing the use of machinery in agriculture.
“A project worth Taka 3,020 crore has been taken with utmost importance in mechanization of agriculture and 284 posts of agricultural engineers have already been created at the field level to create skilled manpower to accelerate agricultural mechanization,” he said.
“Fields in our country are small in size, moreover, farmers plant saplings on different lands at different times…. So, machinery cannot be used properly in agriculture but ‘Samaloy’ method will facilitate the use of machinery,” he added.
‘Samalay’ is a new method of cultivation. All together the same variety of paddy is planted in one field at the same time by machine. Cutting from seedbed, all processes are performed simultaneously with the help of machines.
Senior Secretary of the ministry M Mesbahul Islam, BADC Chairman M Sayedul Islam, Director General of BRI M Shahjahan Kabir were present with Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension M Asadullah in the chair.
