79 more test COVID-19 positive in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 20, 2021 (BSS) – Seventy nine more people were tested for COVID-19 positive today raising the total number of coronavirus infected patients to 34,351 in Chattogram district.

Health officials said the 79 new cases were reported after diagnosing 1662 samples with the daily infection rate of 4.87 percent in the district.

Among the newly detected patients, 69 are from Chattogram city and 10 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.

The total number of recovered patients from coronavirus rose to 31,675 in the district with the healing of 35 more people in the last 24 hours.

A total of 31,675 coronavirus patients have so far recovered from Covid-19 and the percentage of recovery rate stands at 92.42 percent in the district, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said.

The recovered patients were discharged from different home isolations and Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals of the district as two consecutives real- time PCR tests were found negative, he said.

The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases reached 34,351 amid the frequent rising trend in the daily infection rate in recent days only in the district, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS today.

Among the total 34,351 coronavirus infected persons, 26,905 are the residents of the port city and the rest 7446 are residents of different upazilas of the district.

A total of 955 infected patients were also undergoing treatment in designated hospitals in the port city, sources said.

Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said that the death toll from the virus rose to 370 with no fatalities reported afresh in the last 24 days.

Among the reported fatalities, 269 were the residents of the port city and the rest 101 were from different upazilas of the district.

The health official mentioned that the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were identified and they were asked to remain in home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.
