BMM for exemplary punishment to attackers of BU and JU students

DHAKA, Feb 20, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh Muktijoddha Mancha (BMM) today protested the recent attacks on the students of Barishal University (BU) and Jahangirnagar University (JU), allegedly carried out by transport workers and villagers, and demanded exemplary punishment of the culprits.

Muktijoddha Mancha, a platform of the decedents of the freedom fighters, also demanded opening country’s educational institutions immediately and resume all the academic activities in full swing .

The participants formed a human chain this afternoon at the footstep of Anti-Terrorist Raju Memorial Sculpture at Teacher-Student Center (TSC) on Dhaka University campus to press home three-point demand.

Conducted by General Secretary of the platform Al Mamun, president Aminul Islam Bulbul and DU unit president Sonet Mahmud were among others addressed the rally.

The transport workers and the villagers who have carried out attacks and assaulted on university students must bring to book immediately, said Al Mamun in the rally.

“Its moral responsibility of university administration to ensure security of the students and stand beside them when they are in trouble but unfortunately, both BU and JU administrations failed to play their role in this incidents ,” he added.

On February 17, some private dormitories in BU were attacked by a group of transport workers in the district, leaving at least 25 students injured.

It happened after university students vandalized a BRTC bus counter and blocked the Barishal-Kuakata regional highway for two hours on February 16, protesting stabbing of a fellow student.

Later, on February 19, at least 47 students of JU were injured in an attack by residents of a village adjacent to the campus in Savar following a dispute over a cricket match.
