Bangla SMS in half cost marking mother language day

DHAKA, Feb 20, 2021 (BSS) – Mobile operators will cut half cost of short message service (SMS) in Bangla on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day.

Subscribers of Teletalk and Grameenphone can enjoy the facility from today while Robi and Banglalink subscribers will come under the facility from March 15 and March 31 respectively, said a press release.

The move was taken under the initiative of Posts and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar.

He formally inaugurated the service at a function at Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) auditorium here under the joint arrangement of BTRC, Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) and mobile operators.

Posts and Telecomm nations Division Secretary Md. Afzal Hossain, Grameenphone Chief Executive Officers (CEO) Yasir Azman and BTRC high officials addressed it with BTRC Chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder in the chair.

Speaking on the occasion, Mustafa Jabbar said: “We the Bangalees had established the dignity of our mother tongue in exchange for huge blood. It is our moral duty to introduce Bangla at all levels.”

He expressed his gratitude to three foreign mobile operating companies for cutting the half cost of SMS in Bangla.
