JU takes programmes to observe Int’l Mother Language Day

SAVAR, Feb 19, 2021 (BSS) – The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) has chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day with due respect and in a befitting manner on the campus.

Marking the day, teachers, officials and employees of the university will pay glowing tributes to the martyrs, valiant sons of the soil who made supreme sacrifices to establish the rights of the mother tongue, of the language movement in 1952.

The day has been observed around the world as the UNESCO recognised it as “International Mother Language Day” on November 17, 1999.

The day’s programme will begin with placing floral wreaths at the altar of the university’s Central Shaheed Minar on Sunday at one minute past midnight tonight, said a press release.

Teachers and officials of the university will bring out a morning procession (Provat Feri) around 6.30 am to be started from Officers Club to the Central Shaheed Minar of the university.

The university authorities will organise different programmes on the campus to mark the day. Teacher-Student Center (TSC) of JU will organise a virtual cultural programme on Sunday morning.

Marking the day, the national flag will be hoisted at half-mast at all administrative buildings and halls of the university to show respect to the language martyrs.
