Govt working to prevent river erosion in Shariatpur: Shameem

SHARIATPUR, Feb 19, 2021 (BSS) – Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shameem today said the government is working to change the course of river through dredging to prevent the erosion of river Padma in Shariatpur ahead of the next monsoon.

He said this while visiting the river dredging works at Mulfatganj area at Naria in the district.

Shameem said 50 percent dredging works have already been completed while overall progress of riverbank protection works at right side of river Padma is 60 percent.

He hoped that the people residing on the bank of river Padma in Shariatpur will remain safe during the next monsoon.

Besides, riverbank protection works are also going on at erosion prone areas across the country, he added.

Water Development Board Additional Director General Kazi Tofail Ahmed, Chief Engineer (western zone) Md Abdul Hekim, Superintending Engineer (Faridpur circle) Sahidul Islam and Shariatpur Executive Engineer SM Ahsan Habib were present on the occasion.
