Boat capsize: 3 bodies found after 4 days from Karnaphuli river

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 19, 2021 (BSS)- Four days after a good-laden engine-run
boat capsized in the Karnaphuli River, three bodies, who went missing after
the incident early Tuesday, have been recovered by the rescuers today,
Bangladesh Coast Guard sources said.

The boat carrying 30-35 passengers sank following a collision with a
stone-laden barge on that day, Coast Guard Staff Officer of East zone
Lieutenant Commander Habibur Rahman said.

The deceased were identified as Nahiyan Al Faruk, 22, hailed from
Shahmirpur area of Karnaphuli upazila in Chattogram district, Abdul Kashem,
51, and Saidul Karim, 55, both hailed from Kutubdia of Cox’s Bazar district.

Anwarul Islam, sub-inspector of Sadarghat river police station, said that
an engine-run passenger boat sank in the river early Tuesday after being hit
by a cargo vessel.

The rescued bodies handed over to their respective family members, Habibur
Rahman added.
