Average COVID-19 infection rate below 15pc in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 19, 2021 (BSS) – The average coronavirus (COVID-19) infection rate has come down to below the 15 percent mark for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic in Rangpur division.

“Only two positive cases were reported after diagnosing 150 samples on Thursday at the daily infection rate of two percent,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,05,599 collected samples were tested till Thursday, and of them, 15,815 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.98 percent which is below the 15 percent mark for the first time in the division.

The coronavirus infection rate remained below the 10 percent mark during the last two months and below the 5 percent mark during the last couple of weeks in Rangpur division.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 1.64 percent on Wednesday, 2.45 percent on Tuesday, 1.63 percent on Monday, 1.82 percent on Sunday and 2.99 percent on Saturday last in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,815 patients stands at 4,035 in Rangpur, 791 in Panchagarh, 1,328 in Nilphamari, 964 in Lalmonirhat, 1,019 in Kurigram, 1,510 in Thakurgaon, 4,709 in Dinajpur and 1,459 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 15,156 with the recovery of 10 more infected persons in the division on Thursday at the average recovery rate of about 95.83 percent.

“The 15,156 recovered patients include 3,670 of Rangpur, 759 of Panchagarh, 1,299 of Nilphamari, 952 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,469 of Thakurgaon, 4,593 of Dinajpur and 1,434 of Gaibandha districts,” he said.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 307 in the division with no more deaths reported on Thursday.

The district-wise break up of the 307 fatalities stands at 71 in Rangpur, 111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 28 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average fatality rate currently stands at 1.94 percent among the total 15,815 coronavirus infected patients in the division.

Among the total 15,815 COVID-19 infected patients, 12 are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,156 patients and 307 deaths while 340 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Meanwhile, a total 1,72,787 citizens, including 1,15,568 males and 57,219 females, were so far been immunised with COVID-19 vaccines till Thursday in all eight districts of Rangpur division since February 7 last,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of the Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu expressed satisfaction over the improving COVID-19 situation consistently in Rangpur division.

He called upon the above 40-year age group citizens to take the COVID-19 vaccines safely and abide by the health directives to further improve the situation for bringing down the infection rate to the zero level across the division.
