Unified efforts can build a healthy city: KCC mayor

KHULNA, Feb 18, 2021 (BSS) – Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque today said coordinated efforts of all government and non-government organisations are needed to implement a health friendly city.

“KCC cannot be done everything alone; many barriers have been prevailing here to make a healthy city. We should reach our cherished destination after finding out its problem,” he said while presiding over a meeting of the advisory committee of healthy city at a city hotel.

KCC, World Health Organisation (WHO) and Directorate of Health jointly organized the meeting.

The government has formed a health advisory committee aiming to implement Health Environmental City: Metropolis Administration for Good Health and Prosperity at the KCC area under the uninfected disease control unit of the Directorate of Health Programme.

Unified effort is needed to achieve the objective to build a healthy city, the Mayor said roads and drainage development works is ongoing to make KCC a modern city.

Beside, KCC’s Garbage modernization system will begin soon, he said, adding that steps will be taken to make a green and clean city for the next generation.

The meeting decided that the authorities of 36 government departments to be handed over draft proposal to the KCC Mayor who is also the Chairman of the advisory committee, by February 28, for building a healthy city.

Additional director general (ADG) of the directorate of health Professor Dr Meerzadi Sebrina Flora, Chairman of Khulna Development Authority (KDA) Brig General Md Mahbubul Islam, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Khulna University Professor Dr Hosne Ara, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KCC Palash Kanti Bala, Chief Medical Officer A K M Abdullah, Director of Khulna Divisional Health Department Rasheda Sultana, among others, addressed the meeting.
