Bir Bahadur for implementing creek project to boost fish production

BANDARBAN, Feb 18, 2021 (BSS) – Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts
Affairs Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing today laid emphasis on creek project for
increasing fish production in the CHT areas of the country.

Officials should work sincerely to implement the creek project in the
hilly areas, which eventually will help accelerate economic development in
the region, he added.

The minister made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at the
inaugural function of a workshop on stakeholder’s campaign at the district
level under the Fisheries Resource Development Project in the Chittagong Hill
Tracts region at the Bandarban Hill District Council Hall room.

Bandarban Hill District Council Chairman Kishahla presided over the
function as a special guest. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Yasmin Parveen Tibriji,
Superintendent of Police Jerin Akhter, Divisional Deputy Director of
Chittagong Fisheries Department SM Muhib Ullah, Project Director of
Chittagong Hill Tracts Fisheries Development Project Executive Mohammad
Yasin, among others, were present at the function.

Bir Bahadur urged all stakeholders to extend their cooperation to ensure
the creek project successfully.

Referring to different objectives of the creek project, Project director of
the Chittagong Hill Tracts Fisheries Development Project Mohammad Yasin said
the key aims of the project are to increase fish production and create
employment opportunities in CHT region.

The project will be implemented in 26 upazilas of three hilly districts
including Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachhari at a cost of Taka 118.27
crore and fifty thousand.

Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock is
implementing the project, he added.
