Bangabandhu was 1st Bengali chairman of Tea Board: Tipu Munshi

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 18, 2021 (BSS)- Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the first Bengali chairman of the Tea Board from June 4, 1957 to October 23, 1958.

“Bangabandhu Memorial Gallery and Bangabandhu Corner have been set up as one of the main activities of Mujib’s birth centenary celebrations to make unforgettable Bangabandhu’s contribution in the tea sector.” he added.

The commerce minister said this as chief guest while inaugurating the ‘Bangabandhu Memorial Gallery’ and ‘Bangabandhu Corner’ at the head office of Bangladesh Tea Board in the port city.

He said the joining day of Bangabandhu in the Tea Board has been declared as Tea Day.

Tea Board Chairman Major General Mohammad Jahirul Islam presided over the inaugural function while Commerce Secretary Md. Zafar Uddin, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Hafizur Rahman, Tea Board members Mohammad Nurul Alam Chowdhury, Dr Nazneen Kawser Chowdhury and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Abdur Rahim, among others, addressed the function.

The minister and guests exchanged views with the tea sector stakeholders after the inaugural ceremony.
