Jails to be turned into correction centers: Kamal
DHAKA, Feb 17, 2021 (BSS) – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, MP, today said the prisons will be turned into correction centers to bring back the prisoners to normal life in line with the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Quoting the prime minister ‘Prison will be correction center’, he said the Department of Prisons has taken pragmatic steps to bring back the prisoners to normal life in line with the directions of the prime minister.
The minister said this while distributing livelihood materials among the trained prisoners at a programme in city’s Kara Convention Center as the chief guest.
Director of Health and Wash Sector of Dhaka Ahsania Mission Iqbal Masood gave the welcome speech while Inspector General of Prisons Brigadier General Md Mominur Rahman Mamun presided over.
Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the present government is going to enact ‘Bangladesh Prisons and Correctional Services Act’ through the Department of Prisons and the Inter-Ministerial Committee to enact modern and timely laws by amending the existing ‘Prisons Act’.
He thanked the German government and the British government for their support.
