Vitamin A plus campaign observed in Khulna

KHULNA, July 14, 2018 (BSS) – The first round of Vitamin A plus campaign
was observed here today as elsewhere in the country.

Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Moniruzzaman Mony inaugurated the
campaign at the office of Ward No-25 as the chief guest.

The government is working relentlessly to ensure health facilities; he said
adding that mothers and children mortality rate has been reduced while
percentage of immunization rate has been enhanced with united effort.

He also said the main goal of the campaign is to maintain the prevalence of
night blindness in children less than one percent through maintaining the
high coverage of vitamin A supplementation among under five years children.

Councilor of Ward No-25 of KCC Ali Akbor Tipu chaired the inauguration
session while KCC Councilors Hafizur Rhman Mony, Women Councilor Mahmuda
Begum, Rokeya Faruk, Anzira Khatun, Civil Surgeon Dr S M Abdur Razzak, Chief
revenue officer of KCC Abdur Rahman, Assistant Director of Department of
Health Dr Sayed Zahangir Hossain, deputy secretary of Health and Family
Planning Ministry Mofizul Islam, addressed, among others.

Chief Health Officer of KCC Dr A K M Abdullah delivered the welcome
speech.

A total of 1,52, 941 babies aged under 12-59 months were administered red
colour vitamin A capsule in nine upazila of Khulna district while a total of
81,067 babies were administered red colour vitamin A capsule in Khulna City
Corporation (KCC) area.

Meanwhile, a total of 20,510 babies less than 6-11 months were
administered blue colour capsule in Khulna district while a total of 10,775
babies were administered in KCC area, sources said.
