‘Journalists play vital role on agricultural advancement’-Speakers

KHULNA, Feb 15, 2021 (BSS) – Speakers in a day-long training programme today said journalists can play a vital role in relaying accurate information on agricultural advancement.

The speakers said climate change and population growth have put agriculture in an odd spot. Modern agricultural innovations like agri-biotech, modern plant breeding technology etc. can help the people.

“When the mass people will get evidence-based results of agricultural innovation, they will understand the integrity of development and implementation of modern technologies like agri-biotech and crops,” they said in the training programme held at a city hotel.

Media and communication professionals can be a bridge between cutting edge agricultural events and the people, they said, adding that the media needs to keep up with the fast pace innovations in agriculture.

The program, titled “Knowledge Sharing & Capacity building on Agricultural Media Reporting” focused on effective reporting on tech-smart agricultural innovations. Biosafety, modern agricultural practices were discussed.

Farming Future Bangladesh (FFB), a non government organisation, organized the programme, where 25 journalists took part in it.

Arif Hossain, CEO & Executive Director of FFB, Shahanur Shaid Shahin, Deputy City Editor of the Daily Banik Barta, Khulna Press Club President S M Zahid Hossain, were among among others, addressed the programme.

S M Kamal Hossain, Bureau Chief of daily Amader Somoy conducted the event while Mamunor Rashid, Assistant Professor, Mass Communication and Journalism Discipline, Khulna University was the keynote speaker.

The capacity building session provided an extended view of communication practices in agriculture reporting. Agri-biotechnology, food safety, genome editing, science-based innovations and other aspects of agronomy were discussed by renowned journalists, specialists, scientists and academicians.
