DHAKA, Feb 14, 2021 (BSS)—Opener Tamim Iqbal struck a fluent 46 ball-50 as Bangladesh reached 78-3 at tea on day four of the second Test against West Indies at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium here today.

The home side still needs 153 runs as they are chasing 231 runs for a series-leveling victory.

Bangladesh’s highest successful chase in victory came against West Indies in 2009, when they scored 217, chasing 215-run target.

At the home of cricket Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, they had only one successful chase in fourth innings, when they beat Zimbabwe by three wickets, chasing a meager 101-run target.

Bangladesh indeed successfully chased in the fourth innings thrice in their history—the other one came against Sri Lanka.

Tamim’s fluent start however kept Bangladesh alive in their biggest successful chase.

Tamim and Soumya shared 59-run for the opening stand, out of which the latter made just 15, before being the first Bangladeshi wicket to be fallen.

West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite’s part-time spin did the trick to give the tourists a breakthrough.

Three overs later Brathwaite took the prized scalp of Tamim, who chipped it straight to short-cover where Shayne Moselely didn’t make any mistake to grab the catch gleefully.

Off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall then dismissed Nazmul Hossain Shanto for 11, to prompt the early Tea session.

Mominul Haque is in the crease with 2 runs at the second interval of the day.

Brathwaite ended the session with 2-12 while Cornwall had 1-26.
