Bangladesh to chase 231 for series leveling victory against West Indies

DHAKA, Feb 14, 2021 (BSS) – Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam claimed 4-36 as
West Indies was bowled out for 117 in the second innings, setting a 231 run
target for Bangladesh for a series-leveling victory.

Taijul was ably supported by off-spinner Nayeem Hasan, who scalped 3-34,
including the big wicket of Nkrumah Bonner on day four of the second Test at
Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium here today.

Bonner, who scored 90 in the first innings, resisted Bangladesh in the
second innings too and top-scored for the side with 38. He was the ninth
batsman to be out eventually. His 120-ball knock was studded by three fours.

Resuming the day four on 41-3, West Indies experienced a further batting
collapse before Bonner and Joshua Da Silva steadied the innings.

Pacer Abu Jayed Rahi struck twice in the morning session, after the
visitors resumed on 41-3. He trapped nightwatchman Jomel Warrican lbw for 2
before dismissing first Test’s double centurion Kyle Mayers for 6.

Mayers after his epic 210 not out, scored 5 and 6 in two innings of the
second test.

Left arm spinner Taijul Islam then removed Jermaine Blackwood for 9,
stumped by Liton Das before West Indies established its full control on the
match.

Bonner and Da Silva who put on a118-run partnership in the first innings
to help West Indies score 409 in its first innings again seemed to play the
key role.

Taijul however brought up a relief for the side in just second over after
lunch, when he had Da Silva caught by Soumya Sarkar in the first slip,
bringing an end to the stubborn 31-run partnership. Silva, who scored career-
best 92 in the first innings, contributed the side with 20 in the second
innings.

Bangladesh bowlers then forced another West Indies collapse, taking four
wickets for just 13 runs.

Bangladesh was bowled out for 296 in its first innings to concede 113-run
lead. West Indies won the first Test by three wickets.
