Jamalpur’s Melandah municipality polls tomorrow

JAMALPUR, Feb 13, 2021 (BSS) – Election Commission (EC) has completed all
preparations to hold the Melandah municipality polls in the district in a
peaceful atmosphere tomorrow.

Upazila Election Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Anwar Mahmud said
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Police, Ansar and four platoons of Border Guard
Bangladesh (BGB) and executive magistrates will be deployed to hold the
elections in peaceful manner.

According to the election office sources, 24564 voters — 11839 male and
12725 female — will franchise their voting rights in 75 booths of 10
centers.

Voting will continue from 8 am to 4 pm through ballot papers.

Incumbent mayor Shafik Zahedi Robin (Awami League), Md Manowar Hossain
(BNP), and Liyakat Ali (Islami Andolan Bangladesh) are contesting for the
mayoral post.

Besides, 35 candidates for 9 ward councilors and 9 candidates for 3
reserved women councilor posts are vying in the polls.
