Gaibandha SP for building social movement against narcotics

GAIBANDHA, July 14, 2018 (BSS)- Superintendent of police (SP) Engineer
Abdul Mannan Miah in a function here yesterday underscored the need for
building social movement and creating much awareness to the people about the
bad effects of narcotics to build a drug free society.

“The people particularly the young generation should be protected from the
menace of the narcotics anyhow so that they could not derail from the right
track creating manifold problems in the family and the society as well,” he
said.

Abdul Mannan Miah made the comments while addressing a view-exchange
meeting at the office of freedom fighters at Godown Bazaar under Malibari
union of Sadar upazila in the district on Friday as the chief guest.

Gaibandha Sadar Police Station arranged the function in a bid to make the
people of the union free from drug trading and drug taking through
motivational campaign.

With officer-in-charge of the thana Khan M Shariar in the chair, the
function was also addressed, among others, by Union Parishad Chairman Ali
Azam Shah Runu, freedom fighter Khurshid Alam and Jubo League leader Mohammad
Sobuj while journalist Sarker M Shahiduzzaman was the moderator.

The chief guest said it was not possible for any individual, group or the
government to contain the drug abuse until the social movement should be
forged built against the drugs and it would have to start from the family and
the society.

Terming the drug taking as social disease and barrier to the socio-economic
development of the country, the SP said it would not be possible to eliminate
from the society without the movement of all the stakeholders and the drives
against the drugs would continue.

In this context, the SP urged all the stakeholders of the society to come
forward with the positive attitude and play role and keep much contribution
against drugs from their respective position.

OC Khan M Shariar called upon the community people to extend their
wholehearted cooperation towards law enforcing agencies with authentic
information about the drugs traders and traffickers so that they could be
brought to book.

A large number of people including social workers, teachers, businessmen,
political leaders, public representatives, and journalists were present on
the occasion.

Earlier, the SP also participated in the view-exchange meeting with the
locals at Kamarjani Bandar of the upazila to keep the law and order situation
peaceful anyhow to ensure tranquility to the people including char ones.
