Thousands join ‘Bangabandhu Marathon -2021’ in Khulna

KHULNA, Feb 12, 2021 (BSS) – Thousands of people from all walks life today joined ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon-2021’ with joy and enthusiasm in the industrial city of Khulna.

As part of the countrywide ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon-2021’, Khulna district and upazila level marathon began at around 9 am after completion of registration at city’s Shibbari intersection.

Organised by Bangladesh Army with the cooperation of Khulna district administration and Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), people from different organisations joined the marathon.

It started from city’s Shibbari intersection and ended coming at Shaheed Hadis Park after parading five kilometers city roads.

The marathon will be held on February 13, 26 and 27 in district level while on February 19 and 20 in upazila level.

Marking the ‘Mujib Year’, around 10 lakh people are virtually participating in the marathon across the country.

While inaugurating the marathon by releasing balloons in the sky, KCC mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque said the young generation has to learn from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s nationalism, wisdom and internationalism to progress in the unprecedented times of 21st century.

Khaleque, also president of city unit Awami League, said, “We need to study his (Bangabandhu’s) life, his contribution and his role in history.”

Chaired by Khulna deputy commissioner (DC) Md Helal Hossain, the marathon was attended by, among others, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Ismail Hossain Howlader, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan, Superintendent of Police S M Shafiullah, Khulna Press Club President S M Zahid Hossain, Muktijoddha City Unit commander Prof Alamgir Kabir and AL city unit general secretary M D A Babul Rana.
