‘Timely tax payment crucial for national advancement’

RANGPUR, Feb 11, 2021 (BSS) – Timely payment of income tax by all eligible citizens could play a crucial role in speeding up national advancement to build a developed Bangladesh for the next generations.

The opinion came here on Thursday afternoon at a function arranged by the office of the Tax Commissioner of Taxes Zone-Rangpur at its conference room with Tax Commissioner for Taxes Zone-Rangpur Abu Hannan Delwar Hossain in the chair.

Hossain distributed citations and crests among 14 highest tax payers of seven upazilas in Rangpur district and Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) area in four categories on behalf of the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

A tax card recipient and best tax payer also received an award in the function.
Additional Commissioner of Taxes for Taxes Zone-Rangpur Monjur Alam, its Joint Commissioner of Taxes Ashraful Islam and Deputy Commissioner of Taxes (Headquarters and Admin) Sumon Kumar Bormon and President of Taxes Bar Association of Rangpur Advocate Masum Khan spoke.

Besides, similar functions were arranged by the respective offices for distribution of citations and crests among 42 highest taxpayers at Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Nilphamari districts under the Taxes Zone-Rangpur

Manzoor Alam welcomed the 14 highest taxpayers of Rangpur district and RpCC area in the function to further accelerate national development.

The NBR has made the tax payment method easier through modernisation of tax fixation method adopting digitised facilities to make it more realistic with change in mindsets of officials concerned to increase revenue collection.

“If all bigger, medium and small-scale taxpayers would pay income taxes spontaneously, the national economy would be strengthened further completely eradicating reliance on foreign loans for conducting developments” he added.

Tax Commissioner Hossain said there is no opportunity to underestimate the role of income tax payers in the development of the country.

The relationship of taxpayers with development is intense. There is no alternative to paying taxes in a timely and proper manner for development and prosperity of the country.

“In a country of 160 million people, paying taxes by only 2.5 million people is not compatible. If all eligible citizens pay taxes with a patriotic zeal considering the future of the next generations, the country will move towards prosperity,” he added.

Congratulating award winning taxpayers, Hossain said the NBR honours best taxpayers every year to inspire people in paying taxes to further strengthen the national economy for building a developed Bangladesh.
