Farmers expect bumper maize yield in Jashore region

JASHORE, Feb 11, 2021 (BSS) – Officials of Department of Agriculture
Extension (DAE) and farmers are expecting bumper maize production as the
plants are growing excellent now everywhere in six districts of the region
this season.

Maize cultivation increased substantially as its farming in the region
comprising Jashore, Jhenidah, Chuadanga, Kushtia, Meherpur and Magura
districts.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) had set a target for
cultivating maize on 91,990 hectares of land with the production target of 10
lakh 28 thousand 78 metric tonnes maize in the region.

Farmers cultivated maize on 1,205 hectares of land in Jashore district,
46,575 hectares in Chuadanga, 18,500 hectares in Jhenidah, 9,635 hectares in
Kushtia, 15, 715 hectares in Meherpur and 360 hectares of land in Magura
district.

Badal Chandra Biswas, acting additional director of DAE Jashore region
said farmers got fair prices of maize during the last couple of years and as
a result they are now eager to cultivate more maize on their land.

Bumper maize production is expected due to favourable weather conditions
along with adequate supplying of necessary seeds, fertilisers and pesticides,
he said.

The farmer cultivated high yielding maize varieties- Kaberi,Super Shine-
2760, Sunsine, Elite and Pioneer V-92 for boosting its production.
