2 held with touchstone statue in city
DHAKA, Feb 10, 2021 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Tuesday
arrested two persons with a touchstone statue worth about Taka 18 crore from
Shah Ali Thana area in city’s Mirpur.
On a tip-off, a team of RAB-4 conducted a drive in the area and arrested
Mizanur Rahman, 40, and Md Shahidul Islam, 41, and recovered the statue
weighing 34 kg, RAB-4 Assistant Police Super (Media Officer) Md Ziaur Rahman
Choudhury told BSS.
Four mobile handsets and Taka 14,700 cash were also seized from their
possession.
The official said that during the primary interrogation the detainees
confessed their involvement in the touchstone trading for long.
They also said that they have been illegally collecting rare
archaeological finds and smuggling them in foreign countries in exchange of
hefty amount of money.
A case was filed in this connection.
