Two brick kilns fined Taka 11 lakh in Lalmonirhat

RANGPUR, Feb 10, 2021 (BSS) – A mobile court in separate raids has fined two brick kilns Taka 11 lakh for illegally running those violating environmental laws and erected unlawful structures.

Conducted by Rapid Action battalion (RAB)-13, the Department of Environment (DoE) jointly with local administrations carried out the mobile courts on Tuesday at different brick kilns in Aditmari and Sadar upazilas of Lalmonirhat, a press release said today.

The mobile court, led by Executive Magistrate (Senior Assistant Secretary) of the Monitoring and Enforcement Wing of DoE from its Dhaka headquarters Rozina Akhter, imposed a total of Taka 11 lakh fines on the owners of the two brick kilns.

The court fined brick kiln owners Md. Shefaul Islam (LMB Bricks) Taka six lakh and Alhaj Md. Emdadul Haque (Messer’s’ Sun Bricks) Taka five lakh.

Besides, the court dismantled two other illegally erected brick kilns including Messer’s RM Bricks and Messer’ SRI Bricks through destroying unlawful chimneys and other structures harmful for the environment and public health.

“Similar operations will be conducted frequently aiming at curbing various unlawful activities harmful to the environment and public health and banned by the government,” the release added.

Officials and personnel of the DoE, RAB-13 and local authorities concerned were present.
