COVID-19 cases reach 15,780 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 10, 2021 (BSS) – The total number of coronavirus cases rose to 15,780 in Rangpur division where the COVID-19 vaccination campaign continues amid a festive atmosphere as infection rate remains below 10 percent during the last two months.

Health officials said 11 new patients were reported coronavirus positive after testing 376 samples on Tuesday with the daily infection rate of 2.493 percent raising the number of total infected patients to 15,780 in the division.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 0.68 percent on Monday, 3.85 percent on Sunday, 0.86 percent on Saturday, 2.40 percent on Friday, 3.14 percent on Thursday and 1.89 percent on Wednesday last in the division.

The district-wise break up of the total 15,780 patients stands at 4,024 in Rangpur, 789 in Panchagarh, 1,326 in Nilphamari, 964 in Lalmonirhat, 1,014 in Kurigram, 1,507 in Thakurgaon, 4,698 in Dinajpur and 1,458 in Gaibandha districts.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,03,828 collected samples were tested till Tuesday, and of them, 15,780 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 15.20 percent in the division.

“Meanwhile, the number of healed patients rose to 15,070 as 11 more people were cured on Tuesday with the average recovery rate of 95.50 percent,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The average recovery rate of 95.50 percent is currently about 6.28 times higher than the average infection rate of 15.20 percent in the division.

The 15,070 recovered patients include 3,644 of Rangpur, 758 of Panchagarh, 1,295 of Nilphamari, 947 of Lalmonirhat, 974 of Kurigram, 1,437 of Thakurgaon, 4,581 of Dinajpur and 1,434 of Gaibandha districts, Dr. Siddique said.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities rose to 306 in the division with one more death reported on Tuesday from Thakurgaon.

The district-wise break up of the 306 fatalities stands at 71 in Rangpur, 110 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 28 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division, he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.94 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 15,780 COVID-19 infected patients, 14 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 15,070 patients and 306 deaths while 390 are remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 95,221 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 92,132 were released and 3,089 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said the COVID-19 infection rate continues declining during the last town months in the division.
