Harvesting of mustard on in full swing in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, Feb 10, 2021 (BSS) – The harvesting of mustard in all the seven upazilas of the district is going on in full swing.

The mustard cultivators got a bumper production in the current season as the favourable weather was prevailing in the district.

Good production of mustard and its fair prices have been encouraging the farmers to spread its cultivation during the last several years.

Easy cultivation and harvesting process and lower production cost is also a reason behind the popularity of mustard cultivation in the areas, the sources said.

Ala uddin, one of the mustard cultivators of village Nabagram under Manikganj Sadar Upazila, said after harvesting the Aman paddy, they cultivated mustard in their lands and after reaping the mustard, they would cultivate Boro paddy there.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said a total of 37,000 hectares of land was brought under mustard cultivation in all the seven upazilas of the district this season with a production target of 48,050 metric tons.

They said, the mustard cultivators are happy to get maximum production, adding that the government ensured the necessary supply of fertilizers and other inputs in the right times to help its bumper production.

Most of the land would be brought under Boro cultivation after harvesting mustard, they added.
