Abahani split point with Sheikh Jamal in BPL
DHAKA, Feb 9, 2021 (BSS)- Despite taking lead twice in the match, Abahani Limited, Dhaka, were forced by Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club to play a 2-2 goal draw in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football held today at Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) here.
It was the third occasion Abahani had to split points in the ongoing league after playing to a 2-2 goal draw with their arch-rival Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited and 1-1 goal draw with Chittagong Abahani Limited. While it was the first time Sheikh Jamal lost points following their five straight victories in the league.
In the day’s match, Gambian forward Sulayman Sillah and his fellow mate Pa Omar Jobe scored one goal each for Sheikh Jamal while Haitian forward Kervens Belfort and Brazilian striker Francisco Wagsley netted one goal apiece for Abahani Limited.
Kervens Belfort put Abahani Limited ahead early in the 13th minute but their lead lasted for a few minutes when Sulayman Sillah restored the parity for Sheikh Jamal in the 19th minute of the match.
Just after the breather, Francisco Wagsley again put the traditional sky blue Dhanmondi outfit ahead scoring the second goal in the 46th minute while Gambian striker Pa Omar Jobe neutralized the margin scoring the second goal in the 72nd minute of the match.
After that, neither team could not score a further goal in the renaming proceeding.
Abahani’s Jewel Rana and Sheikh Jamal’s Solomon King were shown direct red cards in the 40th minutes following their unsporting behavior in the match.
With this outcome, Sheikh Jamal still stood at second position in the league table with 16 points from six matches while former six time league champions Abahani Limited closely followed Sheikh Jamal with 15 points playing seven matches.
Sheikh Jamal will play their next match against holders Bashundhara Kings on Saturday (February 13) at BNS while Abahani Limited, Dhaka will meet Arambagh Krira Sangha on the same day at Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.
