60 gold bars seized at Shahjalal airport

DHAKA, Feb 9, 2021 (BSS) – A team of Customs Intelligence and
Investigation Directorate (CIID) today recovered 60 gold bars weighing nearly
seven kilograms at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this morning.

“The bars were hidden inside the food storage of a Hi Lift Covered Van
of catering service. Eight catering staff of US-Bangla Airlines were arrested
in this regard,” a CIID release said here today.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of CIID officials boarded flight BS342 of
US-Bangla Airlines from Dubai as it landed here at around 7am. The team
recovered the gold bars, worth to be around Taka 4.87 crore, hidden inside
the food storage of the catering van.

Process is underway to file departmental case under The Customs Act,
1969, and a separate criminal case to this end.
