19,882 women brought under VGD programme in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Feb 8, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 19,882 destitute women were
benefited from Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) programme under the
government’s social safety net programmes of the district this year.

According to the district administration, a total of 19,882 destitute women
of the district have been brought under the programme. Of them, 3,076 are in
Sadar upazila, 2,694 in Syedpur, 3,449 in Domar, 3,447 in Kishoreganj and
3,423 in Jaldhaka and 3,693 in Dimla upazila.

In this regard, a simple function was held on the Palashbari Union
Parishad premises under Sadar upazila around 11 am this morning. Chairman of
Sadar Upazila Parishad (UP) Shahid Mahmud was present there as the chief
guest and distributed the cards and rice among the beneficiaries.

With Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Elina Akhtar in the chair, the function
was addressed, among others, by Vice-Chairman of the UP Shantana Chakraborty,
District Women’s Affairs Deputy Director Nurunnahar Shahjadi and Palashbari
UP Chairman Mamtaz Uddin Pramanik.

“Distribution of cards and rice has started in all upazilas of the
district,” Nurunnahar Shahjadi said, adding that each of the beneficiary
women will get 30-kg rice per month for the next two years.
