2,912 people get COVID-19 vaccine in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 7, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 2,912 front-liners and aged citizens were inoculated with coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine on the launching day of the vaccination campaign today in Rangpur division.

“Among the vaccine recipients today in the first phase, 2,278 are males and 634 are females,” Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali told BSS here tonight.

He said there was no report of any adverse event following immunisation (AEFI) among the recipients of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines till 7:30 pm from anywhere in Rangpur division.

The district-wise break-up of the vaccine recipients on the first day stands at 736 in Rangpur, 261 in Panchagarh, 230 in Nilphamari, 166 in Lalmonirhat, 198 in Kurigram, 274 in Thakurgaon, 717 in Dinajpur and 330 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

Earlier, the much awaited COVID-19 vaccination campaign began today in Rangpur division after Health Minister Zahid Maleque inaugurated the campaign through video conferencing from the DGHS headquarters in the capital city.

“The Civil Surgeons of all eight districts in Rangpur division received 50 cartoons of COVID-19 vaccines containing six lakh doses in the first phase on January 31 last,” Dr. Ali added.

The received vaccines include 2,04,000 doses for Rangpur, 96,000 doses for Dinajpur, 60,000 doses for Kurigram, 36,000 doses for Lalmonirhat, 72,000 doses for Gaibandha, 60,000 doses for Nilphamari, 24,000 doses for Panchagarh and 48,000 doses for Thakurgaon districts across the division.

In Rangpur city, Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa first took the vaccine at a booth at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH).

Later, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu, Civil Surgeon Dr. Herambo Kumar Roy and Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan took vaccines there.

After taking the first dose of the vaccine, Mayor Mostafa told BSS that he took the vaccine first so that common people do not panic and they have full confidence in taking the vaccine.

Talking to BSS tonight, Civil Surgeon Dr. Roy said none of 736 immunised persons who took the vaccines at 15 booths, including eight booths at RpMCH and seven more booths at seven upazila health complexes in the district felt no side effects.
