COVID-19 vaccination campaign begins in Khulna

KHULNA, Feb 7, 2021 (BSS) – The first phase of the much-awaited coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination campaign began today in all nine districts of Khulna division and Khulna city corporation.

The Civil Surgeon office launched the vaccination campaign coinciding with the national vaccination programme.

In Khulna City, the COVID-19 vaccination campaign started after Khulna City Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque inaugurated the programme through taking the first shot of the vaccine at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) in the city.

Chairman of Khulna Zila Parishad and Khulna district unit Awami League president Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid was the second person to take the vaccine at the same venue.

Later, Khulna divisional director of health Rashida Sultana, Khulna Medical College Principal Dr Abdul Ahad, vice-principal Dr Mehedi Newaz, city unit AL general secretary Babul Rana, among others, took vaccines there.

After taking the first dose of the vaccine, Mayor Khaleque told BSS that he is fine and did not feel any abnormality.

“Everyone should take the vaccine without being panicked. I have taken the vaccine first so that the common people do not panic and gain full confidence in taking the vaccine,” he added.

Talking to BSS at 4.30 pm, Civil Surgeon Dr. Niaz Mohammad said none of the immunised persons felt any type of side effects in Khulna district where 863 citizens, out of a total 13000 registered so far, are likely to get the vaccines today.

“We are rolling out the vaccination campaign at 14 booths, including five booths at KMCH and nine more booths at each of the other nine upazila health complexes in Khulna as per guidelines of the government,” he said.

Health workers and volunteers have been trained to conduct the vaccination campaign and health workers, police, freedom fighters, administration officials, other front-liners and aged citizens are getting vaccines on a priority basis.

A total of 56 teams including 29 in Khulna City Corporation are giving the first dose of vaccine to 84 thousand people over the next two weeks.

He also added that a total of 1,68,000 vaccines have arrived in Khulna division.

Inoculation will continue in all Khulna centers from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm everyday.
